Session and Pricing Information

Thank you for your interest in a portrait session!

Let me share a bit more information with you regarding my sessions and pricing.  It is always my goal to make your experience of custom photography with me a wonderful one, so please feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Where will the session take place?

Your session will take place “on-location.”   Is there a place that means something special to you or your family?  Going for an evening walk together at the beach?  Hanging out on your favorite swings at the park?  Let’s go there!  I’m also open to shooting at your home; these can be some of the most timeless images.  Let’s talk…I’m all ears about what you’re hoping for in your images!

How long will the session last?

You can expect your portrait session to last anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes.  I fully realize that families with smaller children may need shorter or longer amounts of time.  If you’re little ones are loving the camera we’ll continue the fun, or if bedtime is quickly approaching we’ll wrap things up early.  Your children and their needs are important to me…a happy, rested child will make for wonderful photos, I promise!

Senior sessions typically last up to 2 hours to allow for multiple (2 to 3) outfit and location changes.

Engagement sessions also typically last up to 2 hours to allow for multiple (2 to 3) outfit and location changes.

What is the best time of day to for portraits?

The best time of day for portrait sessions is the two hours before sunset.  That is what photographers lovingly refer to as “the golden hour.”  The light is generally softer and much more flattering during this time of day, and it enables photographers to produce beautiful, back-lit images (a huge part of my personal style!).  I fully realize that bedtime might be before the golden hour so if your family is better suited for a morning session, we can make that happen, too.  It’s really most important to photograph your kids when they are at their happiest (well rested and fed!) and if that is in the middle of the day, no worries, we will seek out a location with plenty of shade!

What should we wear for family portraits?

Coordinated, not matching!  I usually recommend that families coordinate their outfits (colors in the same shade range) without everyone wearing the exact same thing.  Accessorizing with sweaters or scarves is a great!  It is typically best to stay away from outfits that have bold patterns or logos (such as sports jerseys and Disney character tshirts!) as those do not translate well for the camera.  I recommend keeping things simple so as not to distract from your beautiful faces!

A few other thoughts…

Please remember that we may be sitting on the ground, so wearing white isn’t the best idea.

Comfortable kids are happy kids…clothes that are tight or itchy may lead to some funny faces during the session!

If you feel amazing in your outfit, by all means wear it!  When you feel comfortable and happy in whatever you’re wearing, you’ll look like comfortable and happy in your photos!

If you have questions about what to wear, let me know as I am more than happy to help!
